NEW YORK – To support Diageo North America’s growth strategy in the Ready-to-Drink (RTD) category, the company announced plans to expand its manufacturing footprint and install two can lines at a new facility in Plainfield, Illinois. With an investment of approximately $80 million, the site will have the capacity to produce over 25 million cases of RTDs per year, including Smirnoff seltzers and the newly launched spirits-based RTD cocktails from Crown Royal and Ketel One Botanicals.

“As the ready-to-drink category continues to grow rapidly in the United States, this expansion is very exciting as it will support our plans to meet increased consumer demand in line with emerging trends for convenient formats that are ideal for casual and at-home occasions,” said Debra Crew, President, Diageo North America. “The new operation will supplement our existing ready-to-drink production across North America and strengthen our path to continue building our RTD offering.”

Sitting on a 225,000 square-foot property in Plainfield, Illinois, the new facility will include a 500 cans per minute (CPM) line and a 1200 CPM line, both of which are expected to be available for commercial production by summer of 2021.

“The strategic location of the new site, near our warehouse and Plainfield bottling operation, will allow Diageo to create synergies and the flexibility to expand and carry other market-leading brands in the future,” said Perry Jones, President, North America Supply for Diageo. “We are thrilled to expand our manufacturing footprint and further deepen our relationship with the Village of Plainfield.”

CHICAGO – Jim Beam® Bourbon is kicking off the year by finally offering drinkers a solution to their beer boredom: the refreshing and highly sessionable Jim Beam Highball. Memphis, Tennessee – B.R. Distilling Company has released, Blue Note Juke Joint, the newest iteration under its award-winning Blue Note Bourbon product line. This new bourbon release is designed to complement the Blue Note Bourbon expressions already on the market by offering imbibers an easy drinking, everyday bourbon that is perfect for any occasion.

“With a suggested retail price of $29.99, Blue Note Juke Joint is our Blue Note Bourbon brand’s youngest and most cost-friendly expression to date,” said McCauley Williams, B.R. The syrup was blended with Dry Fly house-made lemonade—containing the award-winning Dry Fly Vodka—sugar, natural flavoring and carbonation.

“On the Fly” cocktails launched last year in the Northwest and the consumer response has been very positive as distribution continues to grow. The cocktails are available in four packs and sell for approximately $12.99 each. There are plans to add new cocktails to the lineup over time and to continue to increase distribution.

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — Old Forester will release the 20th iteration of its limited-edition, vintage-dated Birthday Bourbon on Wednesday, Sept. 2 in celebration of founder George Garvin Brown’s birthday. This year marks the 150th year of the company he began in 1870.

George Garvin Brown was a pharmaceutical salesman and became the first to seal his whiskey, Old Forester, in a glass bottle – an innovation the spirit industry still uses today. As the brand behind the First Bottled Bourbon™, Old Forester has had its share of historical milestones in its 150-year history, with quality and consistency remaining at the forefront.

The 2020 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon will be bottled at 98 proof and is made up of 95 barrels, aged 10 years, and barreled on June 5, 2010. After showing exceptionally unique character during a tasting panel, the 10-year-old barrels were chosen specifically for this year’s Birthday Bourbon. The full allotment of the product represents one day’s production of Old Forester.

This is the third Birthday Bourbon to be bottled at the Old Forester Distilling Co. on Louisville’s Historic Whiskey Row. Hand-selected by Master Distiller Chris Morris and Master Taster Jackie Zykan, this small batch bourbon offers a unique character and flavor profile that will never be replicated.

Aroma: A nuanced balance of white floral notes, magnolia, and citrus, spiced with vanilla, buttery leather, and cocoa powder. Countering the spice are sprinkles of brown sugar, white chocolate shavings, caramel drizzle, and hints of tropical fruit.

Taste: Caramel and brittle toffee lead as the tropical character blooms into a banana, mango, coconut flakes, and macadamia nut.
