Barrell Craft Spirits Scores a Historic Rickhouse in Kentucky Whiskey Country!

January 17, 2023 By Dow Scoggins

Barrell Craft Spirits Acquires Historic Local RickhouseLouisville, KY – Whiskey lovers, get excited! Louisville-based Barrell Craft Spirits (BCS) has leveled up its game by acquiring a massive, historic rickhouse in Shively, Kentucky. This five-story, 89,000-square-foot beauty—built back in 1940 as part of the original Yellowstone Distillery campus—can hold over 17,500 barrels, giving BCS plenty of room to age its award-winning whiskeys and rums amid skyrocketing demand.
Purchased from Angel’s Envy in late 2022, this iconic warehouse has a rich history, having passed through owners like Florida Distillers and Glenmore Distilling Company post-Prohibition. Now, it’s the perfect home base for BCS to streamline operations and keep those exceptional cask-strength spirits flowing.

Why This is a Big Deal
“Working with around 65 different producers means juggling a lot of barrels and logistics,” said Founder Joe Beatrice. “This new rickhouse solves those challenges with extra storage right near our blending facility—making everything smoother and more efficient.”

Founded in 2013 in the heart of bourbon country, Barrell Craft Spirits is the go-to independent blender for bold, innovative expressions. They source top-tier barrels, experiment with unique distillation methods, creative finishes, and aging techniques—then bottle everything at full cask strength for maximum flavor. Whether sipped neat, on the rocks, or in a killer cocktail, these small-batch and single-barrel releases never disappoint whiskey fans seeking something extraordinary.
