BEAVER DAM, Ky. —
Discover the rich history and bold flavors of Hemingway Rye Whiskey Signature Edition, a standout American rye whiskey inspired by legendary author Ernest Hemingway. This flagship expression blends tradition, family legacy, and innovative finishing for a smooth yet spicy profile that’s earned rave reviews and awards.
The Story Behind Hemingway Rye Whiskey Signature Edition
Hemingway Rye Whiskey Signature Edition brings together three iconic families—the Hemingway, Groth, and Call families—spanning eight generations of storytelling and distilling expertise. Inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s adventurous life and love for fine spirits, the brand collaborates directly with the Hemingway family to infuse authentic stories into every bottle.
Founded by Steve Groth (co-founder of Angel’s Envy Bourbon), alongside seventh-generation Master Distiller Ron Call and his sons Clayton and eighth-generation Master Distiller Jacob Call, this rye celebrates Kentucky whiskey heritage dating back to the late 1700s.
“We’ve been thrilled to see the overwhelmingly positive reception to our inaugural whiskey releases, and we couldn’t be more proud to share our Signature Edition,” said Steve Groth, Founder of Hemingway Whiskey Co.
Tasting Notes and Production Details
This 102-proof rye whiskey is a masterful blend:
90% 6-year-old Indiana straight rye
10% 4-year-old Kentucky straight rye (crafted by Jacob Call)
Both components are finished in Ron Call’s rum-seasoned Oloroso Sherry casks, creating a perfect balance of spice and sweetness.
Appearance: Dark amber color
Nose: Dried fruits, raisins, toasted nuts, nutmeg, and cocoa
Palate: Rich spice with citrus zest and warm orange peel notes
Finish: Complex baked fruit, baking spices, and lingering caramel sweetness
Judges at the ASCOT Awards praised it as “a lovely, lovely whiskey” with “beautiful balance between warm, spicy, orange peel flavors and the wine barrel influence.”
“Crafting this signature whiskey was a labor of love,” said Jacob Call. “It delivers traditional rye spice softened by sherry sweetness—smooth, complex, and one we’re proud to sign our names to.”
