FRANKFORT, Kentucky – Buffalo Trace Distillery has introduced the second edition of its Prohibition Collection, an annual limited-edition release celebrating the whiskeys legally produced and sold during the Prohibition era. This five-bottle collection honors the brands crafted at the distillery, then known as the George T. Stagg Distillery, under the leadership of President Albert B. Blanton. The second release pays tribute to Mirror Brook, Very Oldest Procurable (V.O.P.), Anderson’s Belle, Old Fashioned Mountain Corn, and Silver Wedding Rye Whiskey.
Buffalo Trace Distillery has unveiled the second edition of its Prohibition Collection, a limited-edition annual release commemorating the whiskeys legally produced during Prohibition (1920–1933). During this era, alcohol production, sale, and transportation were banned under the 18th Amendment, with exceptions for medicinal whiskey. Buffalo Trace, known as George T. Stagg Distillery at the time, was one of only six distilleries licensed to produce medicinal spirits.
This year’s collection features five meticulously crafted whiskeys inspired by historic brands and original packaging, drawing from documents discovered in the distillery’s archives:
The Whiskeys:
- Mirror Brook
First referenced in a 1932 letter from Albert B. Blanton, this 100-proof bottled-in-bond blend of Kentucky Straight Whiskeys offers aromas of ripe cherry, oak, and rye spice. The palate reveals creamy vanilla, mellow oak, chocolate, and rye spice, leading to a rich finish. - Very Oldest Procurable (V.O.P.)
Registered for medicinal bottling in 1932, this uncut and unfiltered barrel-proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon delivers rye spice, toasted oak, vanilla, and cherry. The finish is warm, with lingering honey sweetness and oak. - Anderson’s Belle
Honoring an unknown figure and adorned with packaging reminiscent of Scottish tartan, this 100-proof bottled-in-bond wheated bourbon boasts caramel, maple, and vanilla on the nose. The palate offers robust oak, dried fruit, and warm wheat character. - Old Fashioned Mountain Corn
Fully owned by the distillery during Prohibition, this 110-proof Kentucky Straight Corn Whiskey showcases sweet corn, toasted oak, and caramel. The warm finish features lingering oak and sweetness. - Silver Wedding Rye Whiskey
Originally crafted under Blanton’s supervision, this 125-proof Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey features notes of vanilla, toffee, leather, oak, and rye spice. The finish is bold, with persistent rye and hints of vanilla and oak.

The collection is housed in a custom wooden display case featuring historic images of the distillery. Each 375ml bottle replicates its original Prohibition-era packaging, including prescription cut-outs for medicinal whiskey labels.
